Born in 1931, Stanley Dove studied shoe design and manufacture at Cordwainers College from 1947-49, five years later he started his own successful shoe factory in London until 1979. He then worked part - time as a consultant shoe designer travelling to various parts of the world to create collections of ladies fashion shoes.

During this time he studied as a mature student at Camden Art Centre, where he concentrated on experimental painting, life drawing and etching. It wasn’t until 1987 that he retired to concentrate on full time sculpture. He began to develop a broad visual repertoire inspired by his love of myths, music, dance and nature. Stanley works both in bronze and bronze resin, producing timeless works that are suitable for indoors and outdoors.

Stanley has since exhibited widely throughout the UK, including the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts, as well as numerous exhibitions abroad including the Musée du Cheval de Courses, Paris and the Zingaro Equestrian Theatre, Paris. To celebrate the year 2000, Stanley created a giant version of the apocalypse horseman, which he sculpted with flammable materials reaching over 12ft tall. This outstanding sculpture was burnt on New Millennium eve in North Devon and is registered as one of the UK Millennium Beacons.
