About the Artist

Katie-Louise Lilford is a local artist based in Kent. Since graduating from Goldsmiths with a degree in Fine Art and History of Art, Katie has worked in the interior design industry, which has furthered a curiosity in the functionality of art and design and the way in which people express themselves within their homes.

Katie’s fascination with ‘the grotesque’ has been the catalyst for her work. Whilst replicating ‘repulsive’ specimens, they are reduced to a collection of lines and shapes. The emphasis is therefore shifted from an involuntary reaction of disgust, to the mere form. Thus, the process itself awakens an appreciation for the structure of the specimen, monumentalising the common household pest.

In creating solely decorative and ornamental representations of dead insects, a once abhorred creature is transformed into something to be desired and revered.
