About the Artist
Patrizia Casagranda is a German/Italian artist who graduated as a designer from FH Niederrhein in 2002. She currently works in Germany, Netherlands, and India from where she draws a lot of her inspiration.
Patrizia’s latest series are portraits of beautiful girls from India, who live from collecting trash from landfills; however, despite their poverty, they exude a very positive feeling for the joy of life, which is captured as a momentary snapshot in her pictures. In the background of the pictures, she has used the trash that these girls collect every morning – burned, painted, glued. This helps to create very lively structures. In terms of typography, Patrizia has used quotes from the Charlie Chaplin movie “The Great Dictator”, “a man who appeals to the humanity in everyone and asks us, in the name of democracy, to let us all unite!”
