Max is an elected member of The Society of Wildlife Artists (SWLA) - one of the art societies represented by the Federation of British Artists (FBA), The Mall Galleries, London - and has sat on the society’s council since 2013. Her linocuts have been exhibited at SWLA’s Annual Exhibition, The Natural Eye, the RA Summer Exhibition, and as part of The Discerning Eye Exhibition, hosted by the Mall Galleries.

Max has been awarded The St Cuthbert’s Paper Mill Award, The Birds Illustrated Magazine Printmaking Award, and The Dry Red Press Award. Her work has featured in the Artist and Illustrator Magazine, Kent Life, BBC Wildlife and The Birdwatch Magazine. ‘The Artful Hare’ and ‘Norfolk Gems’ publications by Mascot Media and the SWLA’s publication ‘The Art Book One’ also include Max’s linocuts.

“I continue to maintain a sketchbook with copious amounts of scrap paper. The limited detail captured with a pencil is just enough for the outlines of linocuts. In my studio, these sketches are put together to create a composition that I feel represents the subject, the atmosphere, or what I can remember from the time. The master lino block is cut and printed to create a black and white image. Light, shade and colour are then considered. The limited palette used takes weeks of trial and error”.
