Carlie Curnow
Carlie Curnow attended Kingston University where she studied Illustration. This background in visual communication and creative problem solving has permeated much of her subsequent fine art development. Always seeking to weave narratives throughout her work, she has most recently used her passion for conservation to raise awareness for the plight of endangered species and environmental issues such as deforestation.
Carlie has worked as a muralist working on several prestigious and large-scale commissions, as well as a career as a Secondary Art teacher. Now with more time to dedicate to her own professional practice, she is rediscovering a passion for painting and developing a deeply personal and unique approach.
Carlie Curnow’s love for wildlife and conservation has been a significant inspiration in her own work. Passionate about the natural world and global issues, her travels around the globe to some of the wildest places on Earth, have inspired her pieces. Delighted by the creatures of Borneo or even the gardens of Kent, her work reflects her interest in the texture, colour and nuance of the animals and birds she depicts.
She enjoys the tension between traditional realism in the subject and the more graphic, abstract or expressive backgrounds she uses exploring a new way to portray a traditional subject matter.
